Check out this table from the BLS that show response rates for it’s various surveys.

10 surveys, 2 of which are mandatory (in some states). The rest are voluntary, with low and falling response rates. Pitiful.

Looks at the huge drop ~10ppts to the export price survey… Export Price Response Rate

..and massive drop of ~20ppts to the import price survey Import Price Response Rate

We need a better approach to collecting our vital macro data.
